  2. Register the rental with the City Clerk through the city's Energov Citizen Self Service portal and pay the $350 short-term fee.
  3. Apply for the Vacation Rental Business Tax Receipt by email or in the same portal, attaching the DBPR license, the Lee County tourist tax and Florida sales tax account numbers or the platform names, and any association consent.
  4. Get a Lee County business tax receipt from the Lee County Tax Collector.

How These Rules Were Checked

Each rule on this page was checked in October 2026 against the official source cited beside it: the ordinance or statute, the permit office's own pages and the tax authority. Airbnb's help pages are cited on their own only for what Airbnb itself does, such as the taxes it collects and the permit checks it runs, and otherwise only beside an official source; news reports only for when a change was announced. Rules that could not be confirmed on an official page are left out. Cape Coral Municode pages (s. 12-129, Chapter 11, Land Development Code Article 11, s. 12-22) and the Lee County Clerk tourist tax page were read in a browser because scripts cannot load them.

Rules change with council votes, court rulings and new state laws, so the page is rechecked every three months and whenever a scheduled change takes effect. It summarizes the rules for information and is not legal advice; the local authority has the final word on any application.

Listing figures come from AirROI's tracking of 4,200 active Cape Coral Airbnb listings over the 12 months to September 2026.
